The following may be attributed to an AT&T spokesperson:
“For more than a decade, under both Republican and Democratic Administrations, AT&T has consistently made clear that we provide broadband service in an open and transparent way. We do not block websites, nor censor online content, nor throttle or degrade traffic based on the content, nor unfairly discriminate in our treatment of internet traffic. These principles, which were laid out in the FCC’s 2010 Open Internet Order and fully supported by AT&T, are clearly articulated on our website and are fully enforceable against us. In short, the internet will continue to work tomorrow just as it always has. Despite the existence and the enforceability of all of these commitments, we have, since 2010, also repeatedly called for a non-Title II legislative solution that would make these consumer protections permanent. We continue to support a legislative solution and will work with any interested members of Congress to achieve that solution.”
I hope you continue net neutrality in spite of the horrendous attack by the republican party today by repealing it. As long as you don’t change your policy or raise rates, I will continue as a customer. If I see one hint you plan to charge more, block pages or throttle I will leave.
I have been a long time customer of At&t and if they start to abuse the power I will most defiantly leave!
I imagine the whole internet is looking at their provider to see what the response is. So hopefully nothing changes and internet as usual.
I’ve been very satisfied with the services provided to me by AT&T, and will continue to be a customer. HOWEVER, if ANYTHING changes about my internet service, I will discontinue my business with AT&T.
Everyone will leave for a telecommunications company that WILL abide by the generally accepted rules if ATT does not stay in line. If nothing else, Musk will be a great alternative in the fairly near future. Do not screw with our interwebs ATT. Do not. Cox has already made the same “promise” as ATT and I expect that ALL ISP’s will remain competitive with each other.
I do hope you give us the freedom to keep talking with the people we want to talk to and the sites we want to explore. The fact that companies can hide things and block us from sites are going against the first amendment and as US citizens we should not be stricken of that right. Please continue our speeds and access to websites, thank you.
Anyone reading this release will be forgiven just a pinch of salt, given the fact that the big providers threw in half a billion dollars worth of lobbying to repeal neutrality. If, as your press release wants us to believe, nothing will change, surely you could’ve left it alone and saved yourself some bus fare?
#Battleforthenet !!!
Please keep this policy in regards of the students using the internet as an online resource for their studies and the future of America. Thank you for keeping your services open.
My family have been loyal AT&T customers, BUT If anything changes, we will leave
Thank you
I have so far been happy with AT&T, and I hope that service will continue, if any changes occur do to the removal of net neutrality, I will certainly leave and find another internet provider, I will also get cellular service from another provider. This is a serious issue and as a consumer I will spend money with a company that treats the internet fairly and freely. Seize this opportunity to keep the market safe by providing quality and interference free service.
I have been a happy customer with att for sixteen years and seeing that you will stand with your customers. Please stay true to your word and I am sure you will receive truck loads of unhappy customers from all the other companies.
My family has 3 phones, 3 network enabled iPads, and Uverse. We have had a relationship with ATT since 1999. If anything changes negatively about the service you provide from an internet perspective, we will be gone in a New York minute.
Instead of giving those hollow promises, can you tell us what will be changed from now on?
AT&T also says pay no attention to the fact that when FaceTime first came out they blocked it’s usage on their Network but yeah they don’t block anything….
YOU STINK
I may have only had my own I termed plan with art for almost 3 years now, my mother has had it since I was young. I have always enjoyed your service and would always choose art over other. However, like everyone else has stated, I do not like to be played with. I enjoy my service the way it is and hope you keep it the same. I will leave your service if anything changes on my plan in a negative way. Please for the love of al that is holy, don’t become greedy with the internet.
Sorry for typos as I am typing from my AT&T prepaid mobile phone.
I will not leave if net neutrality changes things. Please raise my rates AT&T. I understand that you will throttle and block websites as well as charge your customers extra for content. However, AT&T, you know that customers will put up with it. We’ll pay the price, no matter what. We won’t leave. We say we will, but we won’t, because if we do leave, then where will we go? All of the other providers will capitalize on this net neutrality opportunity as well. We have no safe haven except for a complete boycott of all internet products. But the customers cannot live without internet. So there will be no boycott. We, the customers, have lost. I hope that AT&T proves to me, a loyal customer, that this is somehow a win. That maybe, I will benefit from the increased revenue that AT&T will gain from this opportunity. But I’m doubtful.
As a long time AT&T customer I swear to you today that if AT&T does not start actively opposing the FCC ruling on net neutrality I will take my money to company that does…I will support a company who will not support net neutrality.
I’ve been a customer of yours for ADSL for seven years. I’ve been a good customer, and I expect AT&T to uphold your end of the bargain — leave my Internet traffic unfettered and our relationship can continue. I prefer to support telcos over cable companies, but my money will in the end follow whoever treats me and my traffic better.
If any thing changes with my internet I will leave for another company.large companies have disappointed costumers in the past and not care. I believe everyone is watching.
Please follow net neutrality! I will stick with the service provider for as long as they meet the conditions.
I vote with my dollars and I am with AT&T because of statements like this. But the minute your actions do not match your words I am gone.
Curious…. if you plan to not make the changes we are woried about, why do you care so much about net neutrality? How is it to your benefit? Are you planning to wait and watch? Silently make changes when the net neutrality debate isnt in the spot light? Why not protect consumers? Why is it so important for you to have this corporate freedom? I use a lot of internet but im willing to change my usage and lifestyle away from doing so if isp begin to go crazy with monitizing on internet categories like portugal and removing/raising costs of my unlimited plan.
You, direct tv & Verizon are done. Never bite the hand that feeds you. Now millions will look for other providers. You will pay dearly for your lack of vision. You are trying to turn the internet into a toll road. Prepare to loose my my money. Signed a customer of 20 plus years.
Well thanks but no thanks you throttle p2p connections to an unusable state with your fiber, and also you sell our information to companies unless we pay to opt. Out. If you where not the only fiber provider in my location I would drop you in a heart beat.
I have been a loyal customer for years, however If you make one move to remove my rights to a free internet I will cancel my phone and Internet service with you so fast your head will spin and NEVER RETURN. This is Absolutley not exceptable! Please do not tell us one thing and do another or your company WILL be in dire circumstances. I am speaking for at least 10 of my family members as well…thank you
Stop trying to act like a good guy here. You throttle P2P connectivity cause you don’t like it. You max cap internet usage to 1TB. And you sell our information if we don’t pay extra to advertisers.
Sounds like AT&T is sticking to an open internet, if this is true and everyone’s predictions about (other) internet service providers are true,
AT&T gonna get all the money
Dear AT&T,
While time when voting is over you say: “nothing change”. But if your kid has just eaten her/his favorities cookies while you told “Do Not”. Do you really believe you kid if s/he says: “I don’t do it again”?
What about HP/Lenovo/Sony or any other companies who has told: “we do not put our spywares anymore”. And *bam!* there it is again.
So how do you say we should trust your writes because after six month when incoming is decreasing and decision makers has been replaced by others. How do you expect us to trust that YOU can keep your hands of from the honey pot if NOBODY ELSE can do it?
Keep in mind, that you have already done this earlier.
And the hardest question: if you do not plan to change your behaviour, why you were not against this decision?
Have a great xMas!
AT&T only promises not to UNFAIRLY discriminate. They will indeed discriminate and expect users to pay a premium for premium services. They will disclose the premium rates to be FAIR. You can count on a $5.00 monthly premium charge. They already have.
Hey AT&T, I am really begging you as much as possible not to cater to your shareholders. I know today, tomorrow, & for about 6-12 Months, You probably will be “committed to open & free internet”, but after then, I feel like you will abandon that and start doing unfair practices that companies like AT&T are known for by every consumer. I remember when you block FaceTime & Skype Access just to get people to upgrade to more expensive internet plans in 2012. I really beg that you NEVER EVER do such a thing. I beg that you NEVER EVER throttle competitors websites in favor of an AT&T type Website. I beg that you NEVER EVER try to increase internet bill prices or even worse, implement “packaging” where you charge people to access certain websites. These are all fears that the people fighting for net neutrality which you may have lobbied hard to repeal have expressed. I Pray that you keep this promise of an open net forever. If you don’t I will discontinue business with you. Have a good day
My internet services are slow and get kicked off alot
Thank you for supporting net neutrality.
83% of American consumers supported and demanded net neutrality rules remain safe and guaranteed by way of Title II. The public’s trust in AT&T, Verizon, Comcast and the rest of the ISP’s is minimal to nonexistent. Due to your own past actions of customer abuse and lack of respect via endless greed which lead to years of multiples charges for sub par service, forcing long term contracts on us that only benefitted yourselves. Delivered poor service, provided minimal – abusive customer service. And your customer had to endure this for years. Now you ask us to trust you again with our internet. But, your threats of cutting future investment in technology and constant lobbying our government for support of the repeal of NN. Is loud and clear of your true intentions. And you will earn huge profits from manipulating internet services for all your customers.
“Despite the existence and the enforceability of all of these commitments, we have, since 2010, also repeatedly called for a non-Title II legislative solution that would make these consumer protections permanent.”
So basically, you’re still against net neutrality and you always will. Title II is what protected net neutrality by classifying it as a common carrier. Now that it’s been repealed, you’re trying to be on the public’s side by saying you won’t block content or interfere with traffic. However that doesn’t stop you from charging more for bandwidth to companies and consumers. I’ve been a customer for 10 years, but I’m already planning to leave because by the end of the day, it’s all about making more money out of us.
I am satisfied with AT&T service, been a loyal customer. I believe internet neutrality is part of our rights of freedom. If that changes I will leave and seek one that respects our rights.
Loyal customer counting on your word!
I wonder who paid for all these carbon copy posts about being loyal customers and threatening to leave if their service changes. The big government Net Neutrality regulations were imposed TWO years ago, so if you have had good service “for years”, you’ll be happy to know that the thriving economy of Internet growth has been restored.
And, by the way, if anyone stifles free speech it is Google who buries search results that are antithetical to their own ideology.
We had that solution! In the Rules just removed via the Drumpf (trumps Real name) administration. As what you outlined above appears to be a statement of Non-Commitment to resist pay for play!
You conveniently forget that you worked with Apple to block Skype in 1999. AT&T has made many promises to it’s customers, and has often failed to keep its word. How can we trust you now? And by the way, my Internet service has been slow all week, and your modem is known to have a major problem, and the replacement you sent out which you promised would finally give me the speed I pay for had no power supply. Untrustworthy.
Obviously, providers are wildly aware that raising prices = losing consumers! As proven in simple economics, the equilibrium moves in favor of one concept (i.e., number of consumers) while working adversely for the opposite (i.e., revenue to seller). Thus, and especially in considering how internet service is not a tangible item and therefore does not carry a typical bottom dollar value, there would be NO REASON, whatsoever for providers to raise pricing. It would be a breath of fresh air if people, all people, would just let our President do what we elected him to do and if, after four years, they are unhappy with the results, they will absolutely be provided with an opportunity to vote accordingly.
Perfect – get the government out of private business – Let the market keep these providers in check – it will benefit all.
I hope this stays true else I will be saying… “Bye Felicia”
I mean the service in my area already offers the least in upload for online streaming, so not like you’re winning me over as is… :/
I commend you for your statements, Mr. Quinn, but can only say that the proof is in the pudding. My husband and I have been long-time customers of AT&T. We have been loyal, but loyalty goes both ways. I hope your lead can show other ISPs that living under our past net neutrality laws will provide all companies with loyal companies, and keep the internet the way it has been intended. Thank you again.
I know the public is more concerned about what policies will change. Let me point out the obvious. Something like Net Neutrality [Title II], that affects millions of people, it’s hard to believe that ISPs will do nothing to their current policies. The idea is that AT&T [and other ISPs] is no longer forced to provide open access to all legal internet content equally. Mainly, we are all concerned what prices will go up or down if AT&T decides to package content-access.
As you may already know, a majority of the U.S. population uses the internet for streaming [inbound and outbound], email, social media, online gaming, voice communication, and home businesses. Many already pay an exceptional amount of money for this access at mediocre speeds and most times poor customer service [as of lately].
I would like to redirect you from saying, “It’s okay. We’re not changing anything.” to “This is what AT&T plans to do…” Detailing what AT&T plans to do.
If detailed information on AT&T changes for Internet Content has already been published, then please send an email to all customers or post it on AT&Ts home page. This is truly a big deal for us.
I’m a customer and will remain loyal as long as nothing changes with my Internet and the right to go to any website I so choose to go to. Any changes and I’ll leave AT&T. As US citizens we all have the right to go to any website that we choose to go to because it’s not only our right but our choice. Where we go on the web should not be dictated by any company not should any company have the right to block where we go or charge us more to go there.
I was SOOOO happy to read this. AT&Ts history has been legislatively ‘steered’ in the general direction of consumer fairness, so ideas contrary to these would have been both surprising and discouraging. I spent 31 1/2 years with this great company (SWBT), but will have to admit, was somewhat discouraged when the pieces were all ‘Whitakerized’ back into the super-monopoly it started out. However, it proved capable of keeping up with technology, and in light of the $2 trillion in plant that’s essentially losing money every day, has done admirably in my opinion. I appreciate their stance on Net Neutrality today.
Not throttle or degrade? Then why has my internet ran slower than usual. I have been expereincing heavy delays now for over a week. I just finally tired of it tonight and decided to check your page out on that net neutrality thing. Then I decided to see if you were throttling by doing speed tests to see if my speeds would change after the speed test. Interestingly enough I recorded speed tests from three different websites. one of them was At&T. The first website said that my download mbps was 0.56 upload 0.33 The second speed test website was AT&T said that my download was 1.97 upload 0.3 The third site said my download was 2.59 and upload was 0.67 So when I saw the last stats immediately I launched a new tab….whattadayaknow? All of a sudden I have windfall speeds that I haven’t had in the past two weeks? Amazing how that works. So my speed test I gather alerted AT&T and they immediately bumped up my speeds. throttle or no throttle. Curious.
Yea, I’m done with your douche company. Now you got that tax cut and are cutting jobs? On top of net neutrality. You’re an evil corporation and I hope all of your customers become privy to it.
Deuces.
Hi, AT&T.
About half the sites I normally use have been loading at unusable rates for the past week. I condemn you for this and will be supporting any legal action against you that I can. I would simply switch providers but that is not an option, where I live.
Shame on commutations companies and their lobbyists.
ATT is absolutely throttling people right now. Immediately after the removal of net neutrality our web here started being impossibly slow. Did some searching, and many people are having this same problem. It is very obvious that ATT is taking advantage of its customers. Switch to Mediacom if you can, they openly opposed the removal of net neutrality, and offer a far superior internet experience. Ill be making the switch myself quite soon as I now have to switch to my sprint phones mobile hotspot half the time just to get things done online. ATT you are a disapointment
Not even 6 months since the repeal, and ISP’s have already started the throttling bullsh*t. This is exactly why corporations can never be trusted.
