FCC Unleashes More Funds for 5G; Commits to Utilizing Better Broadband Maps to Distribute Support

The following may be attributed to Joan Marsh, Executive Vice President of Federal Regulatory Relations:

“Today, the FCC adopted a 5G Mobility Fund order that advances the Commission’s goals of closing the digital divide and making advanced wireless services available to more Americans.  We commend Chairman Pai for making more funds available for 5G investment.  We have been a strong advocate for improving broadband maps to better target limited Universal Service Fund support to areas that need it most, and we appreciate the Commission’s decision to wait for more accurate maps developed in the Digital Opportunity Data Collection process to distribute this support.  We also support the Commission’s decision to steer legacy wireless high-cost support toward 5G deployment before the 5G auction even occurs, and we look forward to working with the Commission to finalize these rules.”
